Well folks, I am very pleased and proud to announce that Anglo-American Custom Cycle Ltd (www.4HD.net) is the FIRST UK member of The International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA)
This is indeed an honour to be a part of an organisation that strives to give independant custom bike builders recognised credentials.
Unlike the Big firms like H-D, there is no way to check on the skills, qualifications and reputation of a bike builder other than word of mouth or their own websites. The IMBBA provides a certification track from Mechanic through to Master Bike Builder and believe me, the coursework is no walk in the park. This is a huge step forward without having to suffer the regulations that Government approved schemes force upon small builders.

So having been asked many times about replacing normal incandescent bulbs with LED's, here is a guide to making the switch.

Firstly, there are 2 types of replacement LED lights, those with a balast resistor pre installed and those without.
Harleys run 12Volt/21 Watt incandescent bulbs in their turnsignals. Therefore the total wattage required for the stock TSSM (Turn Signal and Security Module) to operate correctly is 42 Watts per side, 84 Watts in total. This is important!

The wire in the bulb creates approx 6.8 Ohms of resistance, therefore if you are using unloaded LED's you will need to purchase 4 x 6.8 Ohm x 25 Watt power resistors and mount them across the LED lamps wires at each corner.

These do get hot and require mounting to a metal surface to dissipate the heat properly, be warned!!!

Taking those with a pre-installed resistor first as they are the easiest, changing is as simple as removing your old bulb and plugging in the replacement loaded LED - Job Done.

Things are not so simple when using unloaded LED's. As mentioned above, you will need to provide the additional load to allow your TSSM to function correctly i.e. flash when button pressed, self cancel and Hazard lights mode.

I will includ a wiring diagram which shows you how to bridge the LED's with the load resistors which is pretty damn clear, so if you can identify your correct wires, you can install the resistors and LED's for  that bright, clean look.

Hope this helps folks
