So, how much is a tanner??...Oh young babe..a tanner in pre-decimal speak was the slang for sixpence ( old pence) which was a small silver ( real) coin, about twice the size of a 5p piece.....don't suppose you recall gob stoppers either do you?...happy days  Grin Grin Grin

Really?  It probably wouldn't be considered Mint condition as it is on a necklace.  Many years ago my Nan had 2 necklaces made up, one for me and and for my sister, she took 2 coins to a jeweller and had them each put on a very delicate silver chain.  The coin has not been drilled through, it has been attached by a the rim/edge of the coin, difficult to describe how it is, but the coin has not been defaced, you can see the detail, writing, year, kings head etc etc all very clearly.  I wore it for a while and then put it away and forgot about it (as kids do) but over the last few months have been wearing it again now and then. It is very shiny and of sentimental value but if it got me my Morgan I'm sure Nan wouldn't mind especially as she past away in the 80s and wouldn't know anyway  LOL

Oh, and I have an 1880 something coin, not sure what it is will have to have a look !

Whislt coin collectors are keen on these pre-decimal coins you would need something like a genuine 1933 Penny to buy the morgan!..gailing that a pot of roman gold ones will do..so get out the metal detector and spade!

Hmmm a 1933 Penny I don't have so there goes my Morgan again Roll Eyes

A pot of gold coins would be very nice indeed but that's a lot of farmers fields to walk lol  Didn't some guy find some recently?

He did indeed around 56,000 in a pot (big pot) ..which was calculated to be about 4 years pay for a legionnaire..all I can say is that a legionnaire on 14K a year 2 thousand years ago was a very well paid soldier..I thought they were happy with the weekly rape & pillage a jug of wine!...come to think of it that wouldn't be a bad deal now Cheesy Cheesy

Had no idea it was that large - lucky bugger  Shocked  That is good pay but they were obviously greedy hence wanting that and the rape, pillage and wine.

People are fussy about what is a good deal or not - did you see in the news at the w/end the guy who turned down a job paying £500 a week driving a lorry because his benefits came to more than that  Angry  The prospective employer  who was shocked to say the least should be made to name and shame the guy who came for the interview and then the authorities should end all his benefits immediately.  OK, off soap-box now LOL

No argument from me GfL..no benefits would do the trick..he's just a lazy bastard..but then if the state is making this easy who can blame him, its the support process that's wrong!
