what difference would it make with a 48T rear sprocket compared to stock sprocket on my 1988 sporty, any info will help, cheers. IE-top end vibration.

this is the sporty before i stripped the front end to fit a wide glide kit, will show when done.

Sorry Alan, I missed this post.
I just looked through my sportster info and everything says 86-92 had 48 tooth sprockets fitted stock, so to answer your question, it won't make any difference at all.

I have seen late 80's XL' with 47, 48 and 49 tooth sprockets OEM No's 41493-90T, 41470-86T & 41492-90T respectively and as you can see from the part numbers, the 48 tooth was standard from 86-90 when 47 and 49 tooth became available.

Hope that helps

cheers guns, i didnt count the teeth, i read sporties had 55 teeth, ill count em myself, the reason for the question was i heard the smaller the sprocket = less vibration at higher speeds.

No problem mate Cheesy
Early sportsters had 51 teeth.
Smaller rear sprocket will change the gearing ratio slightly so you have quicker acceleration but slightly less top end vs revs

According to my info all 86-92 had 48 tooth fitted and from 1990 the option of 47 or 49 tooth but it wouldn't make a massive difference either way in my opinion Roll Eyes
Just my 2 cents
